Kagoshima, Japan

Kagoshima Scenic Ride

“Naples of the Eastern World” Experience the unique setting and fascinating past of Kagoshima, often compared to the Italian city of Naples. A guided drive into the city takes you to Shiroyama Park, a hilltop haven with stunning views of Kagoshima and, on clear days, the Sakurajima volcano. Enjoy time for photos before continuing to the Reimeikan Museum, located within the walls of the old city castle ruins. Here, you will set out to explore on your own and discover a fascinating array of remarkably preserved artifacts that chronicle Japan’s long history and rich culture. After, as you journey back to your ship, you will pass by the nearby bronze statue which commemorates the site of Saigō Takamori’s death—often referred to as the last true samurai, Takamori is a celebrated national hero who wrote some of Japan’s most celebrated poetry under a pseudonym. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
