Coffee Plantation & Batik Workshop
Java (Semarang), Indonesia

Coffee Plantation & Batik Workshop

Indonesian Art and Agriculture Immerse yourself in Javanese culture as you call at a coffee plantation and participate in a guided batik workshop. Board your motor coach and head to a local coffee plantation, where you will learn about the rich history behind the island’s most famous export. Coffee cultivation began in Indonesia during the late 17th and early 18th centuries, when Dutch colonizers first introduced this now iconic crop. Discover the traditional methods which are still used in the production process today and sample a cup of fresh, locally brewed coffee during a guided tasting. After, gain insight into batik, a traditional Indonesian textile art form. Learn about the wax-resistant dyeing techniques used to create batik, and under the instruction of local artisans, try your hand at producing your own. After lunch at a local eatery, return to your awaiting ship. * Easy - Walking portions are generally over easy surfaces with few steps or inclines. Total time walking or standing is normally not longer than 1.5 hours.
