Charming Cefalù
Medieval Cathedral and Washhouse in a Quaint Fishing Village Leave the noise of Palermo behind for the postcard-picturesque charms of Cefalù. A fishing village that still retains much of its old-world Sicilian charm, Cefalù traces its roots back to before the time of the ancient Greeks. After a scenic drive through Palermo and the surrounding countryside, you will arrive in Cefalù. Your guided tour around the village will include a stop at the iconic cathedral. This fortress-looking structure—finished in 1267 and an eclectic mix of Norman, Arabic and Byzantine styles—dominates the local skyline. Next, you will visit the town’s medieval washhouse. A winding limestone staircase will take you 13 feet below street level, where the washhouse is located. See the many small basins that were once used by residents to wash their laundry. Afterward, you will enjoy a snack before returning to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
