Sardinia (Cagliari), Italy

Ancient Ruins of Barumini

Discover Sardinia’s Archaeological Wonder Explore a remarkable ancient fortress site dating to the 15th century BC among the hills of Sardinia. Join your guide for a scenic drive, passing the charming church of Santuario di Bonario along the way. You will also pause for photos at the top of Monte Urpino, a scenic park with sweeping views of Cagliari. At Barumini, uncover the mysteries of the fascinating Su Nuraxi fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built during the Bronze Age and discovered in the 1950s, this fortress—incredibly advanced for its time—was constructed of four corner towers surrounding a central one, some up to 60 feet in height. You will have time to roam about this unique defensive system, known as nuraghi , found nowhere else in the world, and learn more about the people who built it. Enjoy the rustic, agricultural landscapes of Sardinia during your return drive to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
