Tongass National Forest Trek
Hike Through Old-Growth Forest Embark on a guided walk through one of Alaska’s largest national forests, followed by time to relax at a local pub. A 20-minute drive from your ship brings you to the Tongass National Forest, a vast temperate rainforest that covers much of Southeast Alaska. After a short safety briefing near Craig Memorial Cemetery, set out with your guide on an approximately two-mile round-trip walk through the old-growth forest. Pass cedar, hemlock and spruce trees and listen as your guide shares insight into native plants, wildlife and the surrounding ecosystem of Prince of Wales Island. At the trail’s end, pause at a picnic area overlooking the bay, where you may spot marine life in the waters below. Continue to a local pub with a deck overlooking the boat harbor, where you will enjoy a beer or a glass of wine accompanied by a light snack before returning to your awaiting ship. * Demanding - Physically challenging activities, including extensive walks, hiking, riding, water sports, and high altitude activities. Activities by foot may contain difficult, unpaved surfaces and/or multiple stairs and steep inclines. Total time walking or standing may exceed 3 hours.
