Whale-Watching Cruise, Salmon Lunch and Mendenhall Glacier Enjoy three of Alaska’s attractions during a whale-watching cruise, salmon lunch and visit to Mendenhall Glacier. Board your catamaran and head out into the island-studded waters of Stephens Passage in search of humpback whales. These majestic creatures, which can reach up to 50 feet in length and weigh more than 30 tons, are known to regularly feed upon krill here during the summer months. Keep watch for whales—as well as orcas, sea lions, porpoises and local birdlife—while your onboard naturalist describes the area’s fascinating ecosystem. Stop at remote Colt Island and savor a delicious lunch that includes Alaskan salmon before returning by catamaran to Auke Bay. Back on shore, take a scenic drive to the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center, where you will appreciate sweeping views of the glacier while learning about its long history from park rangers and interactive exhibits. Afterward, you will return to your awaiting ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
