Raft Ride in the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve

Alaskan Nature Walk, River Raft & Wildlife Join a small group to raft down the Chilkat River and take a nature walk to enjoy the Alaskan wilderness. Drive along the National Scenic Byway to the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, a refuge for several hundred of these magnificent birds. Meet your experienced guide and board an 18-foot inflatable raft for a leisurely float down the river. Keep watch for wildlife that frequents the riverbanks due to the abundance of salmon inhabiting the waters. You may see eagles, bears and wolves roaming the shores, set against a backdrop of towering mountains, hanging glaciers and spruce forests. Stop to set out on a nature walk as you learn more about the river and the native people who live here. At the end of your excursion, you will receive a signed copy of Where Eagles Gather , written by Joe Ordonez, a local Haines author, photographer and expert on the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve.
