Kayaking in Resurrection Bay & Tonsina Point
Seward, Alaska, United States

Kayaking in Resurrection Bay & Tonsina Point

Discover the Eerie Atmosphere of Tonsina Point’s Ghost Forest Traverse the waters of Resurrection Bay by kayak and call at Tonsina Point, a scenic spot on its western shores. Set out on a narrated drive through Seward, where you will gain insight into its rich fishing heritage. Your journey takes you along Lowell Point Road, nestled on the coast of Resurrection Bay, where turquoise waters meet forested slopes. Upon arrival at the launch site, you will meet your kayaking guides and set out along the shoreline. Take in the views as you paddle along, then step ashore and enjoy a picnic-style lunch before accompanying your guide to Tonsina Point to walk among a ghost forest—an area where trees have died but remain standing, often bleached and skeletal. This striking natural feature was created by the 1964 Great Alaska Earthquake, one of the most powerful earthquakes ever recorded. After time to explore, you will return to your awaiting ship. * Demanding - Physically challenging activities, including extensive walks, hiking, riding, water sports, and high altitude activities.
