Alaska Wildlife Canoe Safari
Scenic Drive and Paddle on Chilkoot Lake Explore the natural beauty of remote Alaskan landscapes during a canoe ride on peaceful Chilkoot Lake. Meet your guides and embark on a scenic drive from downtown Haines into the Chilkoot River Valley. This picturesque region is home to brown bears, eagles, mountain goats and more. At Chilkoot Lake, you will receive a short safety briefing, paddling instructions and a life jacket. Board your motor-assisted Voyageur canoe, the size of which is similar to that used by turn-of-the-century trappers and gold miners. Paddle out into the lake to investigate the inlets, coves, streams and numerous waterfalls that spill off the mountains and into the lake; sit back and let the engine do the work while taking in the views of the surrounding landscape and taking photographs. Later, return to shore and travel back to Haines for a picnic-style lunch, then return to your ship. A liability waiver must be signed to participate in this tour. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
