Juneau, Alaska, United States

Canoeing on Mendenhall Glacier Lake

Paddle Among the Icebergs Traverse the waters of Mendenhall Lake by canoe and step ashore for an up-close view of Mendenhall Glacier. Join a small group and begin your journey with a 30-minute narrated drive through the Tongass National Forest, the largest in the United States. Learn about its historical significance to the Tlingit people as you travel toward the Mendenhall Glacier. Upon arrival, you will have a short safety briefing before receiving your equipment, settling into your canoe and setting out along the calm, glacier-fed waters of Mendenhall Lake. Pass by floating icebergs and cascading falls as you paddle along the water, keeping watch for local wildlife along the way. When you reach the glacier’s edge, set out along the moraine on foot with your guide to investigate its striking ice formations, then paddle back to shore. After a light snack, you will return to your awaiting ship. * Demanding - Physically challenging activities, including extensive walks, hiking, riding, water sports, and high altitude activities. Activities by foot may contain difficult, unpaved surfaces and/or multiple stairs and steep inclines. Total time walking or standing may exceed 3 hours.
