Drive from your ship to a nearby float plane dock, where you will listen to a short safety briefing before climbing aboard your plane and settling in for your journey. As you ascend, take in the views and listen to informative commentary from your pilot. Your route passes over the dramatic landscapes of Obsidian Cove, one of southeast Alaska’s most important prehistoric resource sites. Learn how lava flowed alongside glaciers to create distinctive columnar joints and ridges formed from glassy obsidian, which gave this region its name. Midway through your flight, you will make a water landing to visit a lodge that once operated as a fish cannery. After gaining insight into this industry and its significance to the Alaskan economy, return to your plane and fly back to base. * Easy - Walking portions are generally over easy surfaces with few steps or inclines.
