Hike in Fort Abercrombie State Historical Park

Rainforest Walk and Military History Explore a spectacular landscape and historic sites from World War II during an invigorating hike. Journey by motor coach to the temperate rainforest of Fort Abercrombie State Historical Park and set off on a hike through moss-covered landscapes and flowering meadows, past lakes, beaches and rugged sea cliffs. Watch for puffins, sea otters, whales and eagles as you make your way to tidal pools on the shoreline where sea anemone and crabs are known to reside. Your naturalist guide will inform you about the local flora and fauna as well as the natural disasters that have occurred here, transforming the area forever. Along the forest path, you will see military forts and bunkers built by the US Army as defenses against the Japanese during World War II. Learn about how the war shaped the region and the on-site, volunteer-run initiative to preserve military artifacts. * Demanding - Physically challenging activities, including extensive walks, hiking, riding, water sports, and high altitude activities.
