Haines Wildlife Cruise

Traverse Lutak Inlet in Search of Local Wildlife Embark on a narrated cruise of Lutak Inlet, where you will have the opportunity to spot bears, eagles and more. Meet your crew at Port Chilkoot Dock and board your vessel; after a short safety briefing, your captain will set out through Lutak Inlet. Hear insights about the area as you travel past the Alaska Marine Highway dock, seasonal waterfalls and the mouth of the salmon‑rich Chilkoot River. Take in the views from inside the cabin or from the viewing deck, and keep watch for local wildlife—brown and black bears, eagles, porpoise and humpback whales all inhabit the nearby area. Your vessel continues into secluded Taiyasanka Harbor before crossing the entrance of Taiya Inlet. Its quiet waters are home to harbor seals and migratory fowl, which you may spot as you head to Sawmill Falls, a picturesque waterfall shaped by glacial melt. After time to enjoy the views, return to your ship. Please note: wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. * Easy - Walking portions are generally over easy surfaces with few steps or inclines. Total time walking or standing is normally not longer than 1.5 hours.
