Eldred Rock Lighthouse & Wildlife Cruise
Cruise Lynn Canal and See a Historic Lighthouse Seek out local wildlife during a scenic cruise to Eldred Rock to visit its lighthouse, the oldest in Alaska. Board your vessel and set out from Port Chilkoot Dock for a narrated cruise along Lynn Canal, North America’s deepest fjord. Glide past rugged peaks and watch for whales, porpoises and bald eagles before reaching Eldred Rock, home to Alaska’s oldest standing lighthouse—built during the early 20th century, it is also the only remaining octagonal framed lighthouse in the state. Step inside to explore its restored beacon and original lens chamber. Take in the views as you learn about the lighthouse’s role in maritime history and the ongoing preservation efforts to maintain the site. Then reboard your vessel for the return to Haines. Enjoy a light snack while keeping an eye out for harbor seals, sea lions and more as you cruise past cascading waterfalls and towering cliffs. Please note: wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines.
