Panoramic Drive Through the Dramatic Landscape of Chilkat Valley Discover the striking beauty of the Chilkat Valley during a panoramic drive to the Haines Summit. Meet your knowledgeable guide and board your motor coach before setting out along the National Scenic Byway, passing historic Fort Seward—the first US military base in Alaska—and through the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. Admire views of the vast alpine tundra that comprises the valley as you cross the Canadian border into British Columbia, climb above the tree line and head toward the summit. Stop along the way to observe wildlife and take photographs of the towering peaks that loom over the highway.
