Wrangell Historic Hike
Trek Through Scenic Surroundings Embark on a hike through the pristine Alaskan wilderness and gain insight into Wrangell’s rich heritage. Begin your journey at the pier, where you will meet your guide and board a shuttle bus for the short ride to the trailhead. Upon arrival, you will set out on a two-mile hike along gravel paths, boardwalks and stairs, learning about native plants and the storied history of Wrangell as you ascend. The traditional homeland of the Tlingit people, Wrangell was governed by Russia during the 19th century and later transformed into a bustling frontier town after the Alaska Purchase in 1867. At the summit, take in sweeping views of the town below and Zimovia Strait, an outlook accessible only by this route. Along the way, hear stories of John Muir, the famed naturalist who once visited these lands. After your hike, return to your ship on foot. * Demanding - Physically challenging activities, including extensive walks, hiking, riding, water sports, and high altitude activities.
