Huna Tlingit Cultural Experience

Discover Living Heritage with Alaska Native Voices Visit the historic 1912 Cannery and immerse yourself in the culture of the Huna Tlingit people. Led by an ambassador of Alaska Native Voices, explore the cannery, which once shaped daily life here, providing employment for many residents and even serving as community housing after a fire destroyed much of the nearby village of Hoonah—today, it houses a museum celebrating Alaska’s fishing heritage. Next, participate in a drum-making workshop led by a Huna Tlingit artisan. Learn about the intricate craftsmanship involved in the creation of these drums and discover their ceremonial role. Sample local flavors during a tasting of Alaskan cuisine, then conclude your visit with a tribal experience at the Heritage Theater. Here, Huna Tlingit storytellers clad in traditional regalia will share insight into their culture and community. After, return to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
