Skagway by Street Car

A Costumed Guide Shares Tales of Skagway’s Colorful Past On a Tour of Its Historic Sights Step into the world of Martin Itjen as you board a restored 1920s bus for an entertaining tour of Skagway. Itjen came to the town in 1898, hoping to make his fortune in the Klondike gold rush; instead, he turned his efforts to preserving and promoting Skagway’s colorful history and running sightseeing excursions out of a converted coal truck. During your Skagway by Street Car experience, your costumed guide will share tales from the town’s past and present. Your route will take you through interesting town locales en route to a scenic overlook, where you will learn more about the region’s geography while enjoying sweeping views of the mountains and harbor. You will also make a short stop at Gold Rush Cemetery, the final resting place of many of Skagway’s most notorious characters. At the end of your tour, you may return to your ship or use your free time to explore the town. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
