Scientific Cruise for Alaska’s Whales
Juneau, Alaska, United States

Scientific Cruise for Alaska’s Whales

Collect Samples to Further Knowledge of Ecosystems Contribute to the scientific knowledge of southeast Alaska during a unique cruise on board a custom-built vessel. You will play a significant role in providing ongoing documentation and data collection for local university and regional science programs. Head to the harbor, where you will meet your onboard naturalist guide and the vessel’s crew. As you sail, you may observe your scenic surroundings at the open bow or through the large windows of your cozy cabin as your guide describes the local ecosystem in detail. Your hands-on experience may include collecting water samples, monitoring invasive species or observing humpback whales and other marine life. Your observations and data-logging will improve scientists’ understanding of the food chain and other variables that affect the local marine population. At the conclusion of your cruise, you will return to shore and your awaiting ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
