Nature & History of Scenic Los Lagos

Petrohué Falls and the German Towns of Puerto Varas and Frutillar Discover the scenic beauty of Chile’s Los Lagos Region and learn about its German heritage. Take a panoramic ride across the region, enjoying spectacular views of lakes, forests and snowcapped volcanoes. Arrive at Petrohué Falls, where you can admire the stunning wilderness and untamed rivers set against the backdrop of the mighty Osorno Volcano. Keep your eyes peeled for some of the local fauna, including deer, gray fox and the tiny “mountain monkey,” which is in fact an opossum. Next, visit the handicraft market in charming Puerto Varas, located on the shores of Llanquihue Lake; notice the evidence of the city’s German heritage in its traditional wood architecture. Enjoy a delicious lunch, including German-influenced Chilean delicacies, before driving to Frutillar. Visit the local Colonial Museum and learn about the lives of early 19th-century settlers at this beautifully located lakeside hamlet before returning to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
