Condors of Patagonia
Observe Birds Roosting at Region’s Largest Colony Admire the majestic Andean condor, the largest flying bird in the world, in its natural habitat. Found in mountainous regions and along ocean coastlines, the Andean condor ( Vultur gryphus ) can weigh up to 33 pounds with a wingspan reaching 10½ feet. Embark on a scenic drive by motor coach to the Estancia Olga Teresa, a working family-owned ranch located in the remote Patagonian countryside and home to the largest condorera (condor colony) in the region. Upon arrival, enjoy an introduction to the condor from your guide before taking a short walk to the vertical slopes of Cerro Palamares. Stop to gaze up at the face of the rock wall, where an average of 40 to 50 condors roost during the year. Here, you will have an opportunity to observe them and take photographs with your smartphone or SLR camera through a telescope. Afterward, you will return to your ship. Please note: wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
