Bird-Watching in Tierra del Fuego
Seeking Out Local and Migratory Bird Population Set out in search of local birdlife during drives to various well-known birding sites around Ushuaia. Tierra del Fuego National Park offers a variety of habitats, with its diverse landscape encompassing lush forests, wildflower-filled meadows, waterfalls and glaciers creating a home for around 90 bird species. Meet your knowledgeable guide, then board your motor coach for a journey through the park, making several stops for time to bird-watch. Depending on the time of year, you may be able to see giant woodpeckers, black-faced ibis and austral pygmy owls in the dense beech forests, as well as kelp goose and steamer ducks along the coast. During your excursion, you will stop at the visitor’s center, where you will snack on a local pastry or empanada, accompanied by a glass of beer, wine or a nonalcoholic beverage. Your excursion will end back at your awaiting ship. Please note: wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines.
