Punta Loma Reserve & Ranch
View Sea Lions and Watch Sheep Shearing Demonstration Encounter a colony of sea lions, visit a working sheep farm and learn about life in Patagonia. Embark on a scenic drive by motor coach to the Punta Loma Reserve, home to a year-round colony of up to 600 South American sea lions. These mammals, which can weigh more than 700 pounds, rest and breed on a pebble beach and can be viewed from the top of a low cliff. Continue on to the 7,000-acre Estancia San Guillermo sheep ranch, a modern working farm that still retains its rustic heritage. Here, learn about life in the Patagonian countryside as you listen to a talk by the owners and watch a skilled rancher demonstrate sheep shearing using traditional methods. You will also meet the farm’s other inhabitants, including friendly guanacos, a close relative of the llama. After enjoying a snack at the estancia, drive back to Puerto Madryn and your awaiting ship. * Easy - Walking portions are generally over easy surfaces with few steps or inclines.
