Working Waterfront & Lobster Pull

Portland’s Old Port and Lobster Boat Cruise Discover the daily routine on the Old Port’s docks and join local lobstermen as they haul in the day’s catch. Depart from the pier with your guide for a walk to Portland’s bustling waterfront, where you will find lobstermen off-loading their pots from Casco Bay and seafood shops offering the freshest delicacies from the sea. After your short stroll, board your lobster boat and receive a safety briefing before cruising into the bay to pull live traps. Learn how lobsters get from the bottom of the ocean to your dinner plate, and the difference between “hardshells,” “shedders,” “shorts” and more. Afterward, enjoy a stroll along the cobblestone streets of the Old Port as your guide relates the waterfront’s storied history. A century ago, this charming area was home to fish houses, canneries and factories; today, its lanes are lined with seafood shops, cafés and award-winning restaurants. Your walk will conclude back at your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
