Portland, Maine, United States

Scenic Bike Ride & Mackworth Island Hike

Coastal Views, Local History and Wildlife Park Explore the picturesque coastline and natural beauty of Portland during a scenic bike ride and hike. Meet your guide at the pier, where you will receive a safety briefing and helmet before beginning your ride along the promenade. You will stop at points to take in the scenery and learn about the area’s history. See Bug Light, a steel lighthouse that was first lit in 1875, and hear the story of Fort Gorges, a Civil War–era fortress. Upon reaching Mackworth Island, park your bike and enjoy a mile-long hike along the trail that encircles this heavily forested island. Admire the views of Casco Bay and beyond as you walk along the rocky shoreline; keep watch for the different species of birds that inhabit the island, including seagulls and ospreys. Pick up your bike at the end of your hike and make the return journey to your awaiting ship. * Demanding - Physically challenging activities, including extensive walks, hiking, riding, water sports, and high altitude activities. Activities by foot may contain difficult, unpaved surfaces and/or multiple stairs and steep inclines. Total time walking or standing may exceed 3 hours.
