Oyster Lover’s Experience
The Art of Shucking Oysters Travel to an oyster farm for an up-close look at a long harvesting tradition. Long considered one of the world’s tastiest oysters, the Malpeque oyster has been farmed in these cold waters for generations. Still today, oyster farmers set out in their dories and pluck the shellfish from the bottom of local rivers and bays with a set of long wooden tongs. After a scenic drive into the island’s picturesque central region, you will arrive at the Raspberry Point Oyster Co. facility, where you will learn the difference between standard and choice oysters. After your lesson, an expert oyster shucker will be more than happy to open plenty of oysters for you to indulge in. You will also have an opportunity to try your hand at shucking before returning to your ship, pausing along the way at the PEI Preserve Company to sample locally made jams and jellies. * Easy - Walking portions are generally over easy surfaces with few steps or inclines. Total time walking or standing is normally not longer than 1.5 hours.
