Dogsled Summer Camp
Juneau, Alaska, United States

Dogsled Summer Camp

Enjoy Playtime With Alaskan Huskies Discover Alaska’s rich dog-mushing heritage and meet some of the sport’s four-legged athletes. Embark on a scenic drive alongside the Gastineau Channel, passing through the AJ Gold Mine, once the world’s largest gold-producing mill. Your destination is a sled dog training site nestled in Sheep Creek Valley, where you will be greeted by a professional dog musher. Set out to explore the camp and gain insight into the history of Alaska’s official state sport. Along the way, you will see traditional mushing equipment and a replica of a 19th-century Iditarod Outpost; it pays homage to the famed “Last Great Race on Earth.” Then, climb aboard a wheeled cart pulled by a team of huskies and glide along a 1.5-mile-long trail lined with spruce trees. After, return to camp to meet the next generation of sled dogs and spend some time playing with them, then return to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
