Historic Jesi & Wine Tasting
Age-Old Fortifications, Frescoes and Regional Wines Visit the fortified Roman town of Jesi to learn about its rich history and discover the wine of the Marche region. Birthplace of Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II, Jesi is also famous for its Verdicchio wine, which is produced in the hills around the town. Walk along the refortified walls, passing the cathedral dedicated to San Settimio, patron saint of Jesi. See the 15th-century Palazzo della Signoria and the 16th-century Palazzo Ricci. Outside the city walls are two of its most significant monuments: the Teatro Pergolesi, completed in 1798, and Palazzo Pianetti, which features frescoes unique to the region and paintings by 16th-century painter Lorenzo Lotto. After exploring, continue to Antiche Cantine del Porticello, a local winery founded in the 17th century. Enjoy a wine tasting featuring bread, cheese and salami before returning to your awaiting ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
