Architecture of Noto

Stroll Among the City’s Many Baroque Masterpieces Explore the architectural sights of Noto during a guided walking tour. Although inhabited for many centuries, present-day Noto was founded after a massive earthquake in 1693 destroyed the existing town. The new city is home to several architectural masterpieces of Sicilian baroque buildings, characterized by their soft tufa stone, which gives them a honey-colored look in the sun. Stroll along the central streets of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, admiring the 18th-century Palazzo Ducezio and the stunning collection of surrounding baroque churches, such as the Cathedral of San Nicola, the Church of Santa Chiara, the Church of St. Francis of Assisi to the Immaculate and more. Take in the beauty of the imposing Nicolaci Palace, built in 1737 and whose ornate balconies are an intriguing mix of sculpture and architecture, then return to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
