Sète, France

Agde & Art Nouveau at Château Laurens

Eclectic Style and Diverse Influences Witness the blend of architectural styles and design at a historic dwelling set along the Hérault River. Built at the close of the 19th century, Château Laurens is an eclectic villa suffused with Art Nouveau and Neo-Greek influences. Designed by Emmanuel Laurens, this wealthy collector envisioned it as a work of art, featuring architecture inspired by Orientalism and his own travels showcasing grand displays of stained-glass works and mosaics. Drive to Grau d’Agde, where you will board a private boat. As you cruise along the Hérault River, you will see notable sights including the Quai de la Marine and the bishop’s palace. Upon arrival, explore the living quarters of this former residence and see the blend of styles that compose its interior. After, enjoy a three-course lunch at a local eatery, capping your excursion with a guided walk along the quays of the Hérault River. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
