Art, Theater & Ancient History
Renowned Art, Ancient Ruins and Famous Theater See ancient ruins in Split’s old town and tour sculptor Ivan Mestrovic’s gallery and the Croatian National Theater. Travel to the Mestrovic Gallery to see a comprehensive collection of the works of Croatia’s most renowned modern sculptor, Ivan Mestrovic, in his residence: a stately mansion built in the 1930s. Then, head to the center of Split to explore one of the world’s most impressive and well-preserved Roman ruins, Diocletian’s Palace, constructed during the 3rd century for the emperor of the same name. Its extraordinary walls, columns and arches rise among nearby shops and cafés, making up at least half of Split’s old town. Continue to one of the oldest surviving theaters in Dalmatia, the Croatian National Theater Split, home to opera, drama and ballet ensembles. Tour the backstage area, dressing and sewing rooms before enjoying refreshments and returning to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines.
