East Iceland Nature & Heritage Walk
Bóndavarða, Fýluvogur, Breiðivogur and Views of Búlandstindur Discover the dramatic landscapes and sights of East Iceland during a walk around Djúpivogur and its surroundings. Meet your guide and begin your journey on foot by setting out to see the Langabúd, the village’s oldest building—built in 1970, it has been restored to its original glory and now serves as a cultural center and museum. Next, head to the Bóndavarða cache, a historic cairn overlooking the water that was once used to spot incoming ships. Stop to take in the sweeping views of the village and to gaze up at the distant Búlandstindur, its peak reaching 3,507 feet above sea level. This pyramid-shaped mountain—considered one of Iceland’s mystical power centers—stands firmly in basaltic form. Continue to the small lakes of Fýluvogur and Breiðivogur, keeping watch for the many different birds that call this area home along the way. After your trek, return to Djúpivogur and your ship. * Demanding - Physically challenging activities, including extensive walks, hiking, riding, water sports, and high altitude activities.
