Tétouan Highlights

Discover a Port City’s Arts and Crafts Tradition Delve into the sights and souks of one of Morocco’s important Mediterranean port cities, Tétouan. The former capital of Spanish Morocco, the city is located in the fertile Martil Valley at the northern edge of the Rif mountains. Your tour will start at the Bab el-Okla, one of the city’s seven historic gates. Visit the School of Arts and Crafts (Dar Sanaa) for an explanation of how its teachers pass on their knowledge of traditional crafts, such as tile work and mosaics, to their students. Then, head to the cozy Souk el-Hot and admire its wide selection of ceramic pottery and gold jewelry before viewing the Royal Palace. Built in the 17th century, its ornate main gate is a fine example of the city’s prominent Hispano-Moresque style. Stop for refreshments, then spend time exploring or shopping for the perfect memento before returning to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
