Best of Tangier
Moroccan Legends, History and Culture Explore Tangier’s alluring medina and the coastal beauty of Cape Spartel. Enjoy a panoramic drive to Cape Spartel, the African mainland’s northwesternmost point. Tour the Caves of Hercules, in which, according to legend, the mythological demigod recuperated after completing his 12 labors. Upon returning to Tangier, admire the simple elegance of the Church of St. Andrew. This Anglican church was built in the Moorish style, including its minaret-inspired bell tower. After a short drive to the Casbah district, stroll through the medina and admire the Casbah or the Grand Mosque of Tangier while navigating the vibrant produce markets. Exit the medina and join the controlled chaos of the Grand Socco. Once the city’s main marketplace, today it functions as more of a meeting place and transportation hub. Walk around its palm tree–lined plaza or relax in the lush shade of the Mendoubia Gardens before heading to the Hotel Continental for refreshment and doing some shopping. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
