Sami Ceremony at Traditional Camp
Discover Local Traditions and a Northern Lights Celebration Learn about the customs of the Sami people during a visit to a traditional camp. Meet your guide and embark on a scenic drive through the wintry landscape. During your journey, your guide will regale you with historic tales of the Arctic railway and the region, and offer insight into Norwegians’ everyday lives. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by your host and led to a warming bonfire, where you will have the opportunity to witness and take part in an ancient Sami shaman ceremony. The shaman will welcome you into the lavvu, or Sami tent, and describe the history of his people, their traditions and the Sami way of life. A northern lights–themed drumming ceremony will be performed, followed by time to engage with your hosts and take photographs.
