A scenic drive will take you to the Yabakei Bridge, whose eight-arch stone expanse is the longest of its kind in Japan. Travel through the narrow Aonodōmon tunnel, with a guide entertaining you with the legends behind its construction. It is to this shrine, Rakan-ji Temple, that you will make your own pilgrimage, ascending the hillside with a chairlift. Rakan-ji has several deep caves and more than 3,700 stone Buddha statues. From the park at the top, you can take in sweeping views of the surrounding landscape. * Demanding - Physically challenging activities, including extensive walks, hiking, riding, water sports, and high altitude activities.
