Fortress of the Bears & Alaskan Life

Visit a Bear Rehabilitation Center and a Rural Homestead Set sail on an expedition cruise in search of wildlife and learn about rural life at a homestead. Journey to the Fortress of the Bear and observe firsthand how the center takes care of the bears and nurses them back to health. Continue your tour with an expedition cruise in search of wildlife along the Sitka Channel. Keep watch for marine mammals as your skipper navigates the strait, passing fishermen and Coast Guard sailors at work, and a series of beautiful islets. Back on shore, you will visit the McGraw homestead that has been owned by the family for generations. After a warm welcome, your host will introduce you to the way of life here and regale you with stories of the past and present. Enjoy refreshments by the campfire, then at Sawmill Creek, board a motor coach for a panoramic drive back to Sitka. * Easy - Walking portions are generally over easy surfaces with few steps or inclines. Total time walking or standing is normally not longer than 1.5 hours.
