My Son Sanctuary
Enchanting Remains of Champa Temple Complex Journey into the verdant jungle outside Chan May to explore the enchanting ruins of My Son. Nestled in a lush valley and surrounded by mountains, this complex dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva consists of approximately 70 temples dating between the 4th and 14th centuries. Constructed during the time of Champa kings, this UNESCO World Heritage Site may have been the cultural and religious center of the kingdom. Abandoned and forgotten until the late 19th century, the temples were carefully restored; today, about 20 remain standing. After a trip to the visitor’s center for an overview of Cham history and culture, walk along shady paths to explore the ruins. Admire the imposing edifices and monuments of the site, considered to be the Champa’s answer to the Khmer’s Angkor Wat in Cambodia or Myanmar’s Bagan temples. After lunch, you will return to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
