Tuk-Tuk through Sihanoukville
An Entertaining Ride Through the Streets of Cambodia Climb aboard a local tuk-tuk taxi and set out to discover the notable sites of Sihanoukville. The history of this seaside playground stretches back 50 years, when a French-Cambodian team carved a camp out of the jungle and started building the newly independent Cambodia’s first deep-sea port. Named Sihanoukville after Cambodia’s ruling prince in 1964, the port and its golden beaches brought tourism to the region, creating places such as the modernist seven-story Independence Hotel. The city was badly damaged during the Vietnam War but has since recovered and been dubbed “Asia’s next trendsetting beach” by The New York Times. This road trip will take you past sites such as Victory Beach, Independence Beach and the Independence Monument, the Golden Lions Monument and the famous Wat Krom temple, which affords beautiful views of the city and the Gulf of Thailand. * Easy - Walking portions are generally over easy surfaces with few steps or inclines. Total time walking or standing is normally not longer than 1.5 hours.
