Introduction to Koh Samui
A Temple-Strewn Island Delve into Koh Samui’s spiritual side as you visit the island’s revered temples. You will meet your guide and drive inland, passing lush tropical vegetation, unspoiled villages and white-sand beaches along the way. At the Wat Phra Yai, the Big Buddha Temple, witness a 39-foot golden statue of Buddha sitting atop a wide staircase decorated with sculpted dragons and carved nāga, deities in the form of snakes. You will also see Wat Plai Laem, where some styles of temple art date back centuries. During your visit, admire the large statue of Kuan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy, housed outside the shrine within the temple compound. You will stop for refreshments at a local restaurant overlooking Chaweng Bay, then visit a coconut plantation to see how the coconuts are processed by this small family business. After time to explore, you will return to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines.
