Panoramic Sitka

Historical Highlights, Native Art and Wildlife Sanctuaries Immerse yourself in the rich culture of Sitka and learn about its historical significance and diverse wildlife. Embark on a short drive to the Alaska Raptor Center, where experienced professionals and devoted volunteers work together to rescue and rehabilitate birds. Continue to the site of the 1804 “Battle of Alaska,” Sitka National Historical Park, where you can admire the totem-lined trails and carving rooms where native Alaskan artists bring their signature art form to life. Enjoy exhibits and presentations by local artists before reboarding your coach for a view of historic Castle Hill, where Alaska officially became a part of the United States in 1867. Finally, head to the Fortress of the Bear to meet with an experienced naturalist and observe Alaskan brown bears from a covered viewing platform. Afterwards, alight your coach on the main street or return directly to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
