Mountainous Hot Springs and Historic Old Town Marvel at breathtaking scenery and visit Shimabara’s historic Old Town. Your journey begins with a drive past the Ariake Sea bay and Shimabara Peninsula. Explore the recently restored Shimabara Castle, which was built during the 17th century and later destroyed during the Shimabara Rebellion. Continue to the Old Town of Shimabara and witness its beautiful carp streams and traditional teahouses. Walk in the footsteps of the samurai in Teppo-machi (Gun Town). Stroll along the well-preserved canals that flow along the streets, then savor a delicious lunch before heading to Jigoku and Mt. Unzen. Here, marvel at the hot springs—called jigoku , or “hells and vents.” You will have an opportunity to explore independently and see the steam rising up from the ground before setting out on a scenic drive back to your ship. * Demanding - Physically challenging activities, including extensive walks, hiking, riding, water sports, and high altitude activities.
