Seals & Wine
Wellington, New Zealand

Seals & Wine

Pinniped Colony and North Island Viniculture Encounter a boisterous colony of fur seals and enjoy a taste of fine New Zealand wines. Embark on a scenic drive, leaving Wellington behind as you wind your way through the picturesque Hutt Valley. Your guide will point out where several scenes from The Lord of the Rings trilogy were filmed. Pass over the Remutaka Mountain Range into the bucolic Wairarapa Region, home of the largest seal colony in New Zealand’s North Island. Observe the seals along the rocky shores or choose to climb the 254 steps to the top of the nearby lighthouse for sweeping views of the colony and the South Island coastline. Continue to the South Island’s scenic Martinborough wine region, known for its highly regarded pinot noirs. At a boutique winery, learn more about its production and history, then savor a delicious gourmet meal paired with several wines, before returning to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
