Maputo Art & Culture
Creative Heritage and Tasty Lunch Visit sites of artistic, cultural and historic significance in Mozambique’s lively capital on a panoramic drive. Set out through Maputo’s colorful neighborhoods for a glimpse of its rich cultural legacy at several landmarks. First, stop at Eduardo Mondlane University, the country’s oldest and largest public institute for higher education, to view its art collection from the region. Then, visit the home and gallery of Nelsa Guambe, a self-taught Mozambican artist, to view her works. Next, see the Ntsindya Cultural Centre, where many of the city’s revolutionary creatives met to plan for Mozambique’s independence from Portuguese rule. After, visit Xipamanine Market, where locals go to shop for items ranging from food to furniture, jewellery and even auto parts. You will have lunch at a nearby restaurant, then return to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines.
