Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island

Explore a Sanctuary for Malaysia’s Orangutan Observe orangutans roaming free at Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island Foundation, a sanctuary dedicated to their care. Travel from the island of Penang to mainland Malaysia via one of the longest bridges in the world, taking in views of the Malaysian countryside and sprawling palm plantations. A short boat ride takes you to the Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island Foundation. This world-renowned center is dedicated to the care of Malaysia’s orangutans, an endangered species and one of only two exclusively Asian species of great apes. The island serves as a five-acre breeding sanctuary, as well as a research and education center. You will have the chance to observe orangutans roaming free in their natural habitat and stop by the Education Zone for an expert briefing before returing to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
