Lake Retba by 4x4

Relax With a Weightless Swim in a Salt Lake Escape the hustle and bustle of Dakar to explore the dunes and villages around the unique Lake Retba. Located in the Niayes region of Cape Verde and nestled between white sand dunes and the Atlantic Ocean, the lake was once famous for its vivid pink color, which was caused by algae that produce a red pigment to aid in absorbing light. Due to its high salt content, the lake provides a livelihood for many locals. A busy salt industry has built up around it, and you will have the opportunity to watch the labor-intensive harvesting process. Cool off with a refreshing swim and enjoy the feeling of weightlessness as you float in the salty water. A 4x4 vehicle tour will take you around the beautiful sand dunes, the former finishing line of the Dakar Rally. Visit the nearby Fulani village to observe the business of daily life before returning to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
