The Art of Batik

The Art of Batik

Create Batik Using an Age-Old Artistic Method Tap into your artistic side and learn the traditional art of batik fabric painting. Travel by motor coach to the district of Teluk Bahang. Here, a local artisan will teach you the traditional techniques of using wax and dyes to create your own batik cotton voile scarf. Malaysian batik is typically created by four methods: block printing, freestyle drawing, silk screening, and tie dyeing. You will use block printing to create your scarf, dipping a copper mold design in wax, then stamping and dyeing the material. After the first dyed color has dried, a second wax design is stamped, and the material is dyed again. After the process is repeated a few more times, the cloth is boiled to melt the wax away, resulting in an intricate and beautifully colored pattern. Your handcrafted scarf will be treated to set the colors, then packed and mailed to your home. * Easy - Walking portions are generally over easy surfaces with few steps or inclines. Total time walking or standing is normally not longer than 1.5 hours.
