Mountain Railway & Coffee Plantation
A Vintage Rail Journey and Plantation Tour Explore the Ambarawa antique Railway Museum, ride the rails and visit a local coffee plantation. Built in 1873 and named after King Willem I, the Ambarawa railway station served as a transport hub for the Dutch military and commercial interests. When the rail ceased operating more than a century later, it was turned into a museum. Today, you will see 21 vintage locomotives, wood-paneled boxcars, old telegraph machines, antique photos and other railroad lore. Then, you will come on board and ride the rails through rice fields, plantations and tiny villages. After disembarking, you will travel by motor coach to a local coffee plantation, where you will see how Javanese coffee is cultivated and processed. Enjoy a smooth, rich cup of joe, along with a traditional snack, before your relaxing drive back to the pier. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
