Phuket Old Town, Shrine & Temple
Phuket’s Culture and History Comes Alive View some of the island's most historic sights and explore the traditions of Phuket's diverse people. A scenic drive past picturesque beaches and charming villages brings you to Wat Chalong. Inside the temple are housed a splinter of bone said to belong to the Buddha, and three bronze statues depicting monks who protected Phuket's residents during the 1876 Ang-Yee Rebellion of Chinese mine workers. Continue to Kiew Tien Keng, a stunning Chinese shrine at Sapan Hin park. Study the artistic works, among them stands a statue of Ji Gong, a smiling monk and local hero who wore beggar-like clothes. You will then enjoy free time to explore Phuket’s old town, built on the riches reaped from the tin mining boom. Stroll amid its streets, admiring the eclectic mix of Sino-colonial mansions and beautifully preserved shop-houses featuring local handicrafts, before returning to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines.
