Malibu Coastline & Getty Villa
A World-Class Collection and Magnificent Vistas Visit one of California’s most treasured cultural and artistic centers, the Getty Villa. By some claims, its founder, J. Paul Getty, was the wealthiest American industrialist of the 20th century. Today, the museum holds some of the most important collections of European art and culture. Drive with your guide to one of the museum’s two locations, the Getty Villa in Malibu’s Pacific Palisades. The Villa is an education center and a repository of artifacts and artistic works from ancient Greece, Rome and Etruria dating from 6500 BC to 400 AD. In all, it holds approximately 44,000 pieces from the museum’s extensive collection of antiquities. About 1,200 are on view in a Roman-inspired setting amid Roman-style gardens. After time to explore, drive along the Malibu coastline, celebrated for its celebrity residents and breathtaking panoramas of beach and deep blue sea. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
